Head Start/Early Head Start
GMN Head Start Preschool and Early Head Start support children from birth to age five, along with expectant parents. Our programs help children learn, grow, and stay healthy, while giving families support and encouragement along the way. Head Start Preschool and Early Head Start welcome families with low income, children with disabilities, children/pregnant mothers experiencing homelessness, children in foster care, and families who are over income when space allows. Households receiving SSI or SNAP, or families who are homeless or involved in foster care/kinship, are automatically eligible.
Children receive free developmental and health screenings by quality, trained staff. Families have access to learning support, health and nutrition guidance, mental health services, and help connecting to local resources. Children do not need to be potty-trained to attend.
Head Start Preschool provides center-based classrooms in Guernsey, Monroe, and Noble counties. Early Head Start offers center-based and home-based services in Noble County, as well as home-based services in Guernsey and Monroe Counties.
GMN Tri-County CAC Inc. Head Start and Early Head Start serves 295 children and families in Guernsey, Monroe, and Noble counties.
Learning and Development
Children learn through play, conversation, and hands-on activities that build early language, social skills, problem-solving, and physical growth. Head Start Preschool and Early Head Start Staff work closely with parents and create welcoming indoor and outdoor spaces that help children feel safe and confident.
Health and Wellness
Children enjoy daily physical activity and free healthy meals and snacks. We provide screenings for medical, dental, vision, hearing, and behavioral needs. Families receive help understanding health concerns and can access mental health support when needed.
Family Support
Head Start Preschool and Early Head Start offer parenting guidance, links to community programs, and help reaching personal goals related to finances, education, housing, and employment. Families are encouraged to participate in the program, share their ideas, and join activities that strengthen home-school connections.
Services to Pregnant Mothers
Early Head Start supports pregnant mothers by helping them stay connected to good prenatal care and offering guidance on nutrition, labor, delivery, and newborn care. Families receive home-based support, along with help finding community resources like mental health care, food assistance, or housing support. After the baby arrives, staff follow up to check on both mom and newborn, offer breastfeeding and infant-care help, and prepare the family for enrollment. The goal is to give both mother and baby a strong and healthy start.
